• Our annual conference in Belfast was a fantastic success this year and for those who weren’t able to join us, we will bring you full details in the next edition of Visiting Times.

• Our website is currently undergoing some major updates and may be unavailable for a short time over the holiday period.

• New Exec on Track for New Year

A new ICVA executive committee has been appointed following our Annual General Meeting on 2 December 2005.

The group of 22 includes 7 new members, to whom we extend a particularly warm welcome: Kerry McClelland, Jackie Lacock, Richard Munro, David Hudson, Kath Allaway, Damon Taylor and Patricia Bell.

We will bring you more news on our new committee in the New Year edition of Visiting Times.

• Single Inspectorate extends ICVA’s Influence

The Government has published a policy statement announcing its intention to create a single inspectorate for Justice, Community Safety and Custody.

ICVA was involved in the consultation exercise for this new system, which will allow us to be more involved in influencing the strategic development for the provision of places of detention within England & Wales.

• 300 ICVs, scheme administrators, and members of the executive committee will be making their way to Belfast, Northern Ireland this weekend for ICVA’s National Conference. Presentations on a variety of topical issues will range from the role of police authorities in supporting ICV schemes to that of ICVs in terrorist detainee interviews. Key speakers include Alan Brown, Home Office and Bob Jones, APA and a panel of experts will welcome questions and feedback from all attendees.

• The latest edition of ICVA’s newsletter, Visiting Times is now available and can be downloaded from this website by clicking here.

• ICVA’s 2004-2005 Annual Report is soon to be released. Copies will be distributed to scheme administrators or can be downloaded from the publications section of this website.

• John Littlechild has been appointed as the new chairman of ICVA. A warm welcome and congratulations go to John from chief executive, Ian Smith OBE and the executive committee.

• The executive committee has also appointed a new vice-chair, Mrs Sharron Hardman who receives a warm welcome from all at ICVA.

• Best wishes to Malcolm Ford, scheme administrator in Kent who has recently retired.

• Congrats to Catherine Moore, who has been awarded for her ‘outstanding contribution to custody visiting’ by South Wales Police Authority. Best wishes from all at ICVA to Catherine who has now left the scheme to become a special constable with South Wales Police before pursuing a full time career in the force.
